The Sixty-Four Tales of the Supreme Yoga

A Complete Concordance of Hypnotic Phenomena in the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha

In the 1890s a Calcutta scholar translating the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha reached for an unexpected word: Queen Cūḍālā, he wrote, “had hypnotized her husband”. This book takes him at his word. Clinical hypnotherapist Luis Miguel Gallardo read every tale of the Supreme Yoga in full and wrote down only what the text says: where the mind goes when it goes deep, and how it comes back.

The Sixty-Four Tales of the Supreme Yoga, Volume One

Volume One

The Foundations and Books I to V

Volume One opens with the translator who called it hypnotism, the twenty-five phenomena, the ladder and the trance, the protocols hidden in the tales and the map of the Atlas. Then come the Threshold and Books I to V: Rāma’s dejection, Līlā’s worlds within worlds, the ten sons of Indu, the king who lived a lifetime in a moment, and Uddālaka talking his own mind to rest.

  • Prologue and Part One: six chapters on the text, its translator, the phenomena, the ladder, the protocols and the Atlas
  • The Threshold and tales 1 to 25 (Books I to V of the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha)
  • Every tale: Mitra’s passage, the tale retold, the phenomena, the ladder, the Atlas, the therapy room, a guided practice, its song and notes

The Sixty-Four Tales of the Supreme Yoga, Volume Two

Volume Two

Book VI, the Concordance and the Atlas

The sixth book, the Book of Liberation, holds the deepest trances and the most careful returns: Bhuśuṇḍa the crow who has watched the ages pass, Queen Cūḍālā waking a husband no shout could rouse, Manu’s seven stages of knowledge, and the last tale, where Rāma, roused from his trance, is sent back to the duties of his kingdom. Then the evidence the other way round: the Concordance, the Ladder of Ladders, a forty-day path with the FP20, and the full Atlas.

  • Tales 26 to 64 (Book VI of the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha, both halves)
  • Part Three: the Concordance of every phenomenon, the Ladder Map, the Ladder of Ladders, Then and Now, the Forty-Day Path
  • Epilogue and appendices: sources and method, the canon of sixty-five, the Atlas of sixty-five, finding your tale

Both volumes together: the sixty-four tales and the Threshold, the Concordance, the Ladder of Ladders, the forty-day path and the full Atlas.

What every tale gives you

  • Every tale of the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha read in full, in Vihārī Lāla Mitra’s public-domain translation, with every quotation referenced by book, chapter and verse.
  • The hypnotic phenomena of each tale, one by one, with their clinical parallels, its place on the seven-stage ladder and in the YVH Model.
  • Its coordinates in the Vāsiṣṭha Atlas: the wound and the virtue that heals it, the stage of transformation, the component of Fundamental Peace, its Meta Pet ally and its echoes in the other yogas.
  • A guided practice built from the tale’s own sequence, written to be read aloud, always ending with the full return, with its cautions for the therapy room.

Each volume ends with its own index of the figures of the tales, the clinicians and authors cited, the concepts, the phenomena and the practices.
