Silvia sought hypnotherapy after the painful end of her relationship with her girlfriend, which had lasted for a year and a half. The breakup stirred a profound sense of abandonment and fear of being left alone—emotions that seemed disproportionate to the situation. As we explored her emotional world, it became clear that this recent loss was triggering a much deeper wound rooted in her childhood.
Silvia shared a pivotal moment from her past: the death of her mother when she was just 8 years old. Her family, particularly her father and sister, had hidden her mother’s terminal illness from her, leaving Silvia unprepared for the overwhelming grief that followed. The sudden loss, compounded by the sense of betrayal from her loved ones, shaped her emotional responses to relationships for the rest of her life.
During one of our hypnotherapy sessions, we used regression to revisit this traumatic period. Silvia found herself reliving a moment of desperation—she was standing on top of a tree, ready to jump, unable to cope with the excruciating pain of her mother’s death. This regression was crucial in allowing her to fully process the emotions she had buried for so long.
Once these feelings surfaced, we turned to Gestalt therapy to engage in a healing dialogue with her mother. Silvia expressed the grief, anger, and deep sense of abandonment she had felt when her mother left her. The dialogue allowed Silvia to release years of suppressed emotions, opening up a space for healing.
As Silvia confronted her mother in this therapeutic dialogue, she realized how much she loved her mother and how this love had been overshadowed by her anger and grief. Through a powerful process of forgiveness, we worked to transform this anger into pure light and love. Silvia came to understand that her mother’s departure was not an intentional abandonment but part of the natural course of life. This transformation allowed her to heal not only her grief but also the underlying anger that had been driving her relationship patterns.
In the following sessions, we delved deeper into Silvia’s romantic relationships. We uncovered a cycle of self-sabotage—Silvia would unconsciously push her partners away out of fear of experiencing the same kind of loss she had with her mother. This avoidance of pain was, ironically, recreating the very abandonment she feared most. By committing to relationships only halfway, she ensured their eventual failure, preemptively protecting herself from the deeper hurt.
Through continued hypnotherapy, Silvia was able to reconnect with a core state of love and security. She learned to trust herself and others, realizing that love is inherently vulnerable and that the fear of loss does not need to dictate her choices. The session empowered Silvia to break free from her self-sabotaging patterns and embrace relationships with an open heart, fully present in the moment.
This process was nothing short of miraculous. By addressing the root cause of her emotional pain, Silvia was able to transform her relationship with herself and others. She came to understand that true healing comes not from avoiding loss but from embracing love in its entirety—grief, joy, vulnerability, and all.
Silvia’s story is a testament to the power of hypnotherapy and Gestalt therapy, which together helped her heal her past, release her fears, and reclaim her ability to love fully. Today, she continues to build her life on this newfound understanding, free from the shadows of her past.
