Limitations
Shapiro came to me with a deep, gnawing pain in her stomach that had followed her for as long as she could remember. A strong and compassionate social leader, she was committed to helping others yet felt blocked in her own journey. She described an invisible weight—feelings of sadness and anger that surfaced whenever she thought of her beliefs of limitation and lack of motivation. This pain wasn’t just physical; it was tied to a lifetime of emotional and familial burdens.
During our initial session, Shapiro shared her history. The violent behaviors of her father toward her and her brothers had left deep scars. Her mother, though present, had been unable to protect her. As the oldest sibling, Shapiro felt responsible for safeguarding her family, carrying guilt and the burden of silence about the violence into adulthood. She struggled with self-care and confidence, her internal landscape dominated by feelings of being small, invisible, and trapped by unspoken familial loyalty.
Her goal for the session was clear: "I want to feel aligned, tranquil, and free."
The Hypnotherapy Process
In a deeply relaxed state of hypnosis, Shapiro’s subconscious guided us to the origins of her pain. She revisited scenes from her childhood, where she witnessed her father’s violence and felt powerless to protect herself and her brothers. In these memories, she experienced the sharp sadness of being unprotected by her mother and the guilt of carrying her siblings’ burdens.
Through a guided regression, we facilitated dialogues with her parents.
- Shapiro expressed her deep pain and anger toward her father, telling him how his actions had shaped her life. Through this confrontation, she found a space to release her anger, replacing it with understanding. Her father, in this imagined dialogue, offered an apology, acknowledging the harm he had caused.
- She then spoke to her mother, sharing her feelings of abandonment and disappointment. In this dialogue, her mother acknowledged her own limitations and apologized for not protecting her. This interaction allowed Shapiro to move toward forgiveness, recognizing that her parents were shaped by their own unhealed traumas.
Healing Generational Burdens
Shapiro’s journey didn’t stop with her parents. Her sense of responsibility for keeping the silence in her clan extended to her grandmothers, both of whom she revered yet resented for perpetuating the family’s culture of silence. Under hypnosis, she invited both grandmothers into a sacred space of dialogue.
- With her maternal grandmother, Shapiro confronted the weight of expectations placed on her as the caretaker of the family’s legacy. Her grandmother, in this imagined conversation, gave her permission to let go of the responsibility and acknowledged Shapiro’s right to live her life free of familial constraints.
- With her paternal grandmother, she explored the origins of the silence in her family. Her grandmother shared her own struggles with oppression and pain, helping Shapiro understand the generational patterns that had influenced her life. Through this dialogue, Shapiro forgave her grandmother and herself, breaking the cycle of silence and guilt.
Transforming the Pain
Through these dialogues and moments of release, the pain in Shapiro’s stomach began to dissipate. The felt sense of her burden—described as hairy, round, and noisy—transformed into a light, expansive energy. She no longer felt tied to the shadows of her past.
We guided her into a profound state of connection with the earth and the universe. In this core state, she experienced a sense of unity and oneness, a realization that she was not alone but part of a larger, compassionate whole. The intensity of her pain dropped from an 8 to a state of zero, replaced by a profound sense of peace.
Integrating Freedom and Joy
In the final phase of the session, Shapiro embraced new empowering beliefs and emotions:
- Beliefs: "I am free and conscious," "I am enough," "I am brilliant, compassionate, and capable."
- Emotions: Presence, joy, gratitude, vitality, and love.
Her transformation was complete as she embodied a deep sense of alignment with her true self and her place in the universe.
A New Beginning
By the end of the session, Shapiro described feeling not only lighter but deeply connected to life itself. Her pain was gone, replaced by a core state of unity with the earth and the universe. She left with a renewed sense of purpose, confidence, and joy, ready to lead with grace and freedom.
Shapiro’s story is a testament to the healing power of hypnotherapy. By addressing generational wounds, inviting vulnerability, and fostering forgiveness, she transformed her pain into peace and limitation into liberation. Today, Shapiro continues her journey as a strong social leader, now guided by inner tranquility and a profound connection to the world around her.
